This lift station project required six control panels for the customer’s new lift stations. Four of the new sites had 230 vac, 1-phase utility power available. The lift station pumps required 230 vac, 3-phase. Therefore, Toric Engineering had to design and construct control panels that could do phase conversion from 1-phase to 3-phase. The phase conversion was accomplished with ABB’s variable frequency drives (VFDs). The VFDs would accept 1-phase utility power and convert it to 3-phase to run the pump motors. In addition, there were two new sites that had 230 vac, 3-phase utility power. These control panels did not require VFDs; instead, Toric Engineering designed the control panels with motor starters. This helped to reduce the customer’s cost and stay in budget.
